MODERN CHILD PRODIGIES AND JESUS

I needed a new blog, but my mind was blank – no inspiration at all! I uploaded a revised score and YouTube kindly suggested some things I might be interested in alongside it. It featured a 3 year old violinist Akin Camara and this blog was born.

There are various theories about these vastly gifted children, and how they can do what they do. One finds them in many fields from the arts, to chess players, to mathematical wonder-kids, to sports etc. Here are a few examples from the arts world: a violinst, a pianist and composer, and two artists.

Akim Camara began playing the violin at 2, and performing at 3. He was born in Berlin of a German mother and Nigerian father. Listen to him at 4! https://www.wimp.com/four-year-old-violin-prodigy-is-better-than-most-professionals/

Emily Jordan Bear was born in 2001 in Rockford Illinois. She is a composer, songwriter, pianist (classical and jazz). She composed her first song at 3 and from 4 has had all her compositions published. At 4 she performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 23 with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. Since then she has gone from strength to strength, receiving many awards on the way. See https://youtube.com/watch?v=eyshyzE3yew

Aelita Andre was born in Australia in 2007.  She is an abstract expressionist artist who painted professionally from 9 months! Large canvases with brilliant colours. A gallery in Melbourne sold her works after an exhibition when she was only 22 months. When she was only 4, one of her paintings sold for $24,000. Her paintings are gorgeous! See:

Kieron Williamson is a water colour artist who was born in Holt, Norfolk, England in 2002. He painted from an early age and by the time he was 9, his sales amounted to about 2 million pounds. His works, often land, city or seascapes are evocative, sensitive and beautiful. https://kieronwilliamson.com/

And then there is Jesus, as modern today as he was 2000 years ago. Luke records in Lk 2:41-52 how the 12 year old Jesus went with his parents, Mary and Joseph, to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. He did not return with the crowd and after a day his worried parents turned backed and searched everywhere in Jerusalem before finding him 3 days later sitting amongst the teachers. His mother asked him, “Why have you treated us like this, my son? Your father and I have been worried, looking for you everywhere”. And Jesus gave them an answer they did not understand: “But why were you looking for me? Did you not know I must be in my Father’s house?”

Was Jesus a child prodigy? The teachers were amazed at his ”comprehension” and the answers he gave to their questions. 20th century people are still amazed: they admire his life and his moral teachings. Some even try to emulate them. But God Almighty walking this earth sandal shod? No, that’s going too far! Just like Joe Smith next door who says he’s “saved”.  But we do have enormous respect for Jesus!

However, you have to decide about Jesus Christ. Is he or is he not the divine Son of God who created the heavens and the earth with its majesty of flaming sunsets and fragility of fluttering butterflies?

God bless
Merle
