Merle Lamprecht - poet and musician
I was very blessed to grow up in a Christian home with godly parents and two younger sisters. (For my youth see blog of 26/7/2015, ROSEBANK UNION CHURCH THE “SPANISH CHURCH” MEMORIES.) When I was nineteen, I married John who had just graduated from theological college and university. For most of our life, I have been involved in his career and retirement activities. If I knew how much typing I would do in our 63 years of married life, I would have learnt to touch type!
We served in two Baptist churches for 12 years, beginning in a raw, dusty gold mining town which we left after 3 years to start a church in Johannesburg, South Africa. Nine years later when all the members had built a church and it was established, we left with our three children as John had accepted a post in theology at a South African university, and he remained in academia until he retired.
I had trained as a pianist, but due to arthritis can no longer play my scores. When our fourth child was stillborn, I wrote a poem. This began my writing “career”. I gained a BA with majors in English and History of Music. For many years I wrote for American Christian magazines. My collected poems include a great many of these. See THE HARPS TOP STRING. I published a book in the USA entitled A CHRISTIAN IN LONDON AND PARIS, and more recently FOR MY FATHER, all available as free downloads on this site.
About 2000 I started composing music. Among the first was my LITTLE SONGS FOR LITTLE PEOPLE. All my music scores may be heard and downloaded on Musescore.com. I also have a Youtube channel. There are links to them on the various Music pages.
We have 3 children, 7 grandchildren – all Christians - and 4 young great grandchildren. God has been very good to us throughout our life. We have faced many difficult times and the Lord, as Paul said to Timothy, has stood by us.
