CHRISTMAS
There is much to sing about at Christmas! I have chosen some of my favourite carols for this page. (There are others under CAROLS). I’ve also included music from other sections. Some of my Christmas poems have been added. All the music is in a SET on Musescore.com where they may be heard and down-loaded (free).
CHILDREN
Baby Jesus lying there (for the tiny tots)
Oh! Happy birthday, Jesus Christ (REV)
Away in a manger
CHOIR
These are from my cantata, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW (PART ONE EDITED). The whole may be performed at a special event, or singly during a service.
The prophecies
Gabriel
Mary: from the Magnificat
The shepherds
The Wise Men
CAROLS
Here is a selection from my NEW TUNES FOR FAVOURITE CAROLS.
Hark! The herald angels sing
We three kings
Once in royal David’s city
Joy to the world the Lord is come
O come all ye faithful
It came upon a midnight clear
A Christmas carol REV
Christians awake! Salute the happy morn
While shepherds watched their flock
Carol REV
Joy a carol REV
As with gladness men of old
All hail the power of Jesus’ name
Angels from the realms of glory
The first Noel
What child is this
Good Christian friends rejoice
Carol sweetly carol
All this night bright angels sing
As with gladness men of old (2)
Go, tell it on the mountain
Infant holy, infant lowly
Songs of praise the angels sang
SINGING SCRIPTURE
His name shall be called Wonderful 2 (2019)
My soul magnifies the Lord
And the Word was made flesh
SONGS
I walk in the steps of three Wise Men REV
PRAISE HIM!
This is an unusual Christmas play for children that can be rehearsed separately with only one full rehearsal. See MUSIC drop down for download of play. The songs are at the end of the SET
POEMS from THE HARP’S TOP STRING. See Menu for free download.
AFTER CHRISTMAS
the holly and the ivy
turkey
cranberry
so sorry
another trolley
don’t touch!
the holly and the ivy
can I have it, Mummy?
ham
cherries
cake
Christmas crackers
the holly and the ivy
more cards
jelly
chocolate chip cookies
DON’T TOUCH!
where’s Santa Claus?
I want Skipper
not Barbie
sage or rosemary
onions
breadcrumbs
the holly and the ivy
the holly and the ivy
THE HOLLY AND THE IVY
neither shall
I meet you
under the mistletoe
around the
red-ribboned wreath
in the candles’ glow
nor in church
the slow oven
twenty for dinner
perhaps
I can greet you
after Christmas
Christ
I WALK IN THE STEPS
I walk in the steps
of three wise men
carrying gifts
to Bethlehem
I walk to worship
the babe in the stall
whose birth reveals
the Lord of all
the gifts I bring
are those he gave me
life, purpose
liberty
my gift to him
will be to use
those gifts as
he himself will choose
SECOND CHANCE
speaking on TV
cured of cancer
he said
I’m grateful to God
for a second chance
and I thought
there are so many
second chances
thank God
not only cures
every morning
brings new mercies
every spring
brings promise
every hurt healed
brings hope
and Christmas -
ring the bells!
tell the world –
brings a second chance
for all

A STATUE IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE
it’s fitting
that London’s
most meaningful
statue –
not mentioned
in tourist books –
should be there
in the heart
of the city
in Trafalgar Square
it’s not Nelson
perched proud
on his column
or Charles the first
on his horse
or the tragic
new marble
symbol of courage
it’s the
birth of a baby
in the porch
of a church
it’s
Jesus the Christ
Son of God
Word and Lord
the concrete plinth
powerful
square
Scripture entwined
pictures that Word
emerging as flesh
from its
turbulent top –
the birth
of our Lord
who lived
with us here
who gave himself
for the crowds
swarming the square
I stood
for a moment
in wonder
there
